Hello my name is Louie and thank you for joining me on my personal journey in realizing wellness, both physical and mental, as a middle-aged man.
Like many people my age, nothing makes me cringe more than the term “middle-aged”. It makes me instantly think of people who are old, culturally irrelevant and out of touch.
Instead I prefer to be called a Midult.
“Midults are a unique combination of digitally literate, hyper-connected and financially confident, they are the first generation to grow old without checking out. We are the healthiest, wealthiest and most active generation of women (and men) in history. Ignore us at your peril.”
Emilie McMeekan , co-founder of The Midult
The purpose of this blog is to inspire men in similar circumstances by sharing my experiences with fitness, diet, mental health, mindfulness and co-parenting.
I have had some great personal victories on my journey so far. I’m in the best shape of my life and I feel mentally prepared for anything.
Over the past year I have been exploring new healthy interests and feel compelled to write about them in this blog. I will be sharing my experiences with:
- Yoga and Mindfulness
- Krav Maga
- Brazilin Jiu Jitsu
- Hiking
- Cycling
- Art
- Self-help Books
I hope that this blog encourages others to share their experiences as well. We could all use more motivation and inspiration!
That’s a pretty powerful statement: “… the first generation to grow old without checking out.”
I like the idea of not checking out — don’t get me wrong. 😛 What makes our group of Gen X’s different that way though?

Our group of Gen X’s have a lot of pressure to not check out due to necessity rather than by choice.
The ubiquitousness of technology in everyday life combined with a changing job environment forces our generation to keep up or face becoming obsolete.

I am a sucker for a good “self-help” book (even though I dislike the term self-help). I look forward to your suggestions.
